Email Marketing Compliance for Publishers
As a publisher promoting advertisers via Daisycon by sending out emails with links to advertisers, it's essential to be aware of all applicable laws and regulations. Make sure you comply with specific requirements for each country in which you operate. You must have documented, verifiable permission from all email recipients to send them marketing emails.
Note that publishers cannot promote advertisers directly via email without completing the additional “email publisher” registration process. During sign-up at Daisycon, you must select "Email Marketing" as your media type if you intend to use email for promotion. If you already have an account and wish to start with email marketing, add a new media type for email to your account.
Daisycon prefers double opt-in databases. Email lists using single or confirmed opt-in are subject to additional screening.
Email Publisher verification process
Each email publisher must complete a questionnaire when creating a media with the "email marketing" media type. This questionnaire, available in English, is linked to the media and must be completed for each individual media type with "email marketing". If you have multiple media, even for the same email database, a separate questionnaire is required for each.
Important: A media will not be reviewed until the questionnaire is fully completed, including an upload of a sample mailing. Please complete the questionnaire accurately and truthfully to expedite your approval as an email publisher. The questionnaire covers topics such as:
- Structure of the email database and how consumer consent was obtained;
- Methods for consumers to withdraw consent and opt out;
- Newsletter format and sender identity;
- Promotional strategies used for the newsletter.
Advertisers can access this information whenever an email publisher subscribes to their campaign, allowing them to understand the structure of the publisher's email database.
If responses in the general questionnaire are unclear, further specific checks may be conducted.
If responses do not meet legal or regulatory standards, the publisher may not be permitted to access the network. In certain cases, Daisycon may consult legal advisors to ensure compliance with email marketing guidelines.
Publishers must attest in writing that the questionnaire has been filled out correctly. Daisycon operates on a "when in doubt, exclude" policy.
Single, Confirmed, and Double Opt-In
Here is a breakdown of single, confirmed, and double opt-in processes:
- Single Opt-In: When a consumer directly subscribes to a newsletter on a website or other medium.
- Confirmed Opt-In: After subscribing, the consumer receives a confirmation email verifying their subscription.
- Double Opt-In: The consumer confirms their subscription by clicking a link in the confirmation email.
Daisycon prefers using the double opt-in process for maximum compliance.
Unsubscribe Options and Email Content Requirements
Apart from ensuring a compliant email list, Daisycon also imposes strict requirements on the email content and the ease with which consumers can unsubscribe.
Each email publisher must submit a sample newsletter for review as part of Daisycon's quality control process. This includes an assessment of the sign-up process and the newsletter's content.
Every email must clearly include instructions on how consumers can unsubscribe from the newsletter. The opt-out process must be simple and free of charge.
Advertiser Approval for Email Campaigns
After being approved as an email publisher, you can request to participate in advertiser campaigns. The advertiser has the final say on whether a publisher may join their campaign and under what conditions.
Before sending a campaign, publishers must submit a preview and additional information to the advertiser for approval via the Email Approval Tool. Only after receiving approval may the campaign be sent. Access this tool under "Tools" | "Email Approval Tool" | "New Emailing Request" in your account.
