How to use Daisycon's product feeds?

A lot of advertisers offer a product feed. You can use this feed to show product information of the advertiser on your website. Like this, you can compare products on your website.

Product feeds can help automate certain processes on your website so you can earn more through affiliate marketing. To actually use a product feed, you need a bit of technical information though.

What do you need to do, to use a product feed?

Before you can use an advertiser's product feed, your respective media needs to be subscribed and approved for the campaign.

The most common application is for you, the publisher, to set up your own database into which you will load the required product information from the advertiser. So consider carefully which product information you want to use. You can create a product feed in your account from the menu 'Link material' | 'Product feeds'. Click on the button 'Create new filter' and follow the steps to create a product feed that meets your requirements.

Once you have completed the product feed configuration you can use the export url in your own system. With a so called cronjob you can set up that you, for example every night, update the data in your own database on the basis of the data from the product feed. Set the product feed to one hour after processing. You can see this time when retrieving the product feed link in the field or column 'last_modified'. This way you always have the most up-to-date data on your website.

Tip 1: Retrieve a product feed in parts

When working with larger product feeds (lots of data), it is wise to have a stable and fast web host. Many smaller and cheaper web hosts are not able to process large product feeds as quickly or at all. It is therefore always advisable to retrieve product feeds in parts. For example, per 100 records.

Tip 2: Structure of the product feed

Product feeds have the same basic structure, but may differ in terms of additional data. For example, the standard product feed contains a title, description and amount, but a Telecom feed can also contain data such as subscription costs and bandwidth. Therefore, always check the structure of the product feed when retrieving the product feed link. There are also tools for this.

Tip 3: Product feed filter options

You can also filter on a specific product selection. Want to get started with this? Read more about the filter options of the Daisycon product feeds.

Make use of product feeds without any technical knowledge

If you want to use product feeds on your website without technical knowledge, we recommend using a data feed management tool. For CMS systems such as WordPress, there are many different plugins available (such as Datafeedr and WP All Import) for importing and exporting product feeds.

Please note:

A good implementation of feeds on your own website is programming work. If you are not good at programming, we recommend to hire a professional or promote via text links, banners and deep links. For further support on product feed management, it's best to contact the support of your own CMS system or webhosting. Daisycon cannot give support on scripts from third parties.

Widgets / tools based on product feeds

Of course you can also make use of the widgets and tools that Daisycon offers. Those also utilize product feeds. You can place them without any technical knowledge on your website. Examples of widgets that use product feeds are:
