How to verify my website at Daisycon?

Please note: You can not subscribe to campaigns if your media is not verified!

At Daisycon we continually strive to further improve our service level quality. Also, we value transparency. In this context we now ask our publishers to verify their media, so that there is no doubt about the ownership of the media. This applies to all our publishers, both new and existing.

When you register a new website to the Daisycon network, it will be pending approval by the Daisycon team. You will receive resolution within two working days. Next to this, you must verify ownership of your website.

Daisycon requires all website and email publishers to verify their media. Verifying your website can be done by adding the Daisycon verification token to your website. When you need to verify multiple media, you can use this one token for all your media. This token is unique for every publisher, not for every media. Once verified, the token can be safely removed.

On this page we provide a tutorial for the verification of your media. Step 1 is alike for all methods available.

Step 1: Choose your method

  • Once logged on to your publisher account click the ‘Settings’ menu item on the left hand side and click ‘Media’.
  • Here you can find your media which needs to be verified. These media are marked red and quotes ‘Media not verified.’

Step 2: tutorial for the available methods

Method 1: Verification by uploading a verification file, i.e. via FTP

Below we provide a tutorial on how to verify your website by uploading the verification token using an FTP client. This also applies to websites build with WordPress, Joomla, Drupal and others, but this requires the FTP login to your website and some knowledge on FTP clients.

You need to upload the token on to your website using an FTP client. You can follow the description below:

  • Open or download FileZilla (freeware) or a similar FTP-program.
  • Logon to the server of your website via FTP. Generally your webhost provides FTP details when you register your webhosting. Mind you, these data are not the same you use when logging on to your CMS (such as WordPress of Joomla).
  • After connecting your FTP client, drag the verification token to the folder where your website files are installed. The name of this folder differs, but is usually called ‘www’, ‘httpdocs’ or ‘public_html’.

Below a screenshot of the FTP client interface:

Example 1 | Folder structure FTP client user interface

Once the token is correctly implemented, visit the ‘My Media’ section within your Daisycon publisher account again. Click the green ‘verify now’ link. Your media is now verified!

Mind you; When you need to verify multiple media, you can use this one token for all your media. This token is unique for every publisher, not for every media.

Method 2: Website verification using a metatag: Joomla and WordPress

It is possible to verify your website using a metatag. For websites build with the most common CMS systems, e.g. WordPress, Joomla and Drupal, this is the most userfriendly method. By adding the metatag in the site´s header the site can be verified. The metatag option is also appropriate if you have limited access or do not have full admin rights to the CMS. In that instance the metatag must be used as a keyword.

  • Choose the method "add a metatag"
  • On the next pop-up the meta tag is displayed.
  • Log on to your WordPress-admin. (www.websitename.com/wp-admin/)
  • Go to ‘Appearance’ / ‘Editor’.

  • Open the template ‘Header.php’.
  • Paste the Daisycon meta tag code between the < head > and < / head >tags, and click ‘Update file’ when you’re finished.

If you don’t see the button ‘Update file’ then you probably don’t have the proper rights. You can modify these rights through FTP.

Tip: Daisycon WordPress plugin

A convenient alternative is that you download the Daisycon WordPress plugin. This plugin is specifically made to verify your website without you having to change your rights. Download the WordPress plugin.

Metatag in Joomla

  • Log on to your Joomla-admin (www.websitename.com/administrator).
  • Go to ‘Extensions’ / ‘Template Manager’.

  • After that, go to ‘Templates’ and select the template you’re using at the moment.
  • In the menu on the left hand side, select ‘Index.php’ to edit it. Find < head > in the text and paste the Daisycon meta tag somewhere between the < head > and < / head >tags.
  • After you’re finished editing, click the Save button at the top of the screen.

Limited admin rights / CMS access: use the metatag as a keyword

If you have limited access to the CMS or do not own full admin rights, you can verify your media by using the metatag as a keyword:

  • In the Daisycon interface choose the method "add a meta tag".
  • On the next pop-up the meta tag is displayed. Part of this is to be placed on your website.
  • Copy just the unique part of the metatag that is quoted directly after "content=". As per example, highlighted in red:
  • < meta name="9032b9435a176AX" content=" adf3a0d619d4a328923dadcd0c05c70b " / >
  • Place the metatag part as a keyword in the metatags of your website.
  • No verify the website as explained in the final step below
  • Note: we advice you to remove the keyword after successfully verifying your website.

Final step: verify the media

After adding the meta tag, visit “my media” again in the Daisycon publisher interface. Choose the correct media, click verify now and then choose the method “Add a meta tag” again. Now click the green button ‘verify your media now’. If done correctly your media will now be verified and a message will appear!

Mind you; When you need to verify multiple media, you can use this one token for all your media. This token is unique for every publisher, not for every media.

Method 3: Website verification by adding a TXT record to DNS

You can also verify website ownership by adding a TXT record to the DNS management of the domain. You add TXT records using the administration tools at your domain host.

  • Log on to your domain´s account at your domain host.
  • Go to the page for updating your domain´s DNS records.
Common names for this: “DNS-management, Name Server management or Advanced Settings”.
  • Go to the TXT-records for your domain. There may already be one or more records, which looks like this:

  • Add a TXT-record with the correct value: “site-verification=UNIQUE TOKEN”.
The complete token can be copy-pasted from the Daisycon publisher interface.
  • Save the changes. Mind you, it can take a while for changed settings to take effect, in some cases up to several hours!

After adding the token to the DNS settings, visit “my media” again in the Daisycon publisher interface. Choose the correct media, click verify now and then choose the method “Add DNS entry” again. Now click the green button ‘verify your media now’. If done correctly your media will now be verified and a message will appear!
